The Otsutsuki are a clan of extraterrestrial beings. They travel to different dimensions and galaxies in search of life forms. The ideology of an Otsutsuki, or Otsutsuki’s will, is to evolve continuously to attain godlike powers. For this, they need to taste the fruit of the God Tree or Shinju.

What is Otsutsukification in Boruto?
You might have noticed that all Otsutsuki members that came to Earth always attacked in pairs. Momoshiki Otsutsuki and Kinshiki Otsutsuki attacked Konoha in pairs. Princess Kaguya was paired with Isshiki Otsutsuki. This is not because the Otsutsuki believes in teamwork and comradeship.
The Otsutsuki need to grow the Shinju, or “God tree,” and feed it with immense amounts of chakra so it can bear fruit. That is not the sole condition for doing so.
For the Shinju tree to bear fruit, it must feed on an Otsutsuki. And for this very reason, the Otsutsuki always attacked in pairs.
The lower-ranking Otsutsuki must sacrifice himself for the tree to bear fruit. But it is no ultimate sacrifice made for a companion or the evolution of the Otsutsuki clan.
The Otsutsuki are capable of using every insane jutsu and even resurrection. Karma, a mark that an Otsutsuki can leave on someone, is the secret behind their immortality.
The person who bears the karma becomes a vessel for the Otsutsuki who placed it on him. A slow transformation starts in the person, where his body and mind start getting corrupted and occupied by the data stored in karma. Eventually, the person loses his identity and becomes an Otsutsutki.
All Major Otsutsukification Events
Otsutsukification in Boruto was defined by Amado. Isshiki Otsutsuki placed the karma on Jigen, a monk. But Jigen’s body was not strong enough to be his vessel.
He started growing weak and decaying. So Isshiki searched far and wide for a strong vessel. He abducted many children and conducted scientific experiments on them to find the perfect vessel. Many children died in the process. Kawaki was the only one who survived.
Kawaki has a karma on him that is slowly taking over his body. However, after Isshiki’s death, he no longer had to worry about Isshiki taking over his mind, but his body had undergone Otsutukification. Kawaki’s physical body is that of an Otsutsuki.
Momoshiki Otsutsuki placed his karma on Boruto. He was gradually taking over Boruto’s mind. Kawaki pierced Boruto’s heart to kill him and stop him from harming anyone, especially Naruto.
But Momoshiki prevented that from happening by destroying some of the Karma data and using it to repair Boruto’s body. Momoshiki can now never take over Boruto’s body. Instead, it has become a battle of wills between the two, and whoever wins will be the conscious one.
With Isshiki Otsutsuki dead, Code has inherited the will of Otsutsuki and is determined to taste the chakra fruit. Kawaki has decided to eliminate Boruto to protect Naruto, and Boruto is struggling with Momoshiki, who is trying to take over his body. The coming chapters of Boruto are going to be quite thrilling.
