Kimi ni Todoke is one of the most beloved shoujo manga of all time. The popular manga was adapted into a TV anime series in 2009 and experienced huge acclaim from both viewers and critics. The anime ran for two seasons, in which we follow Sawako Kuronuma as she finds friends and falls in love in high school. Now the anime is renewed for a third season.
According to a recent announcement, season 3 of Kimi ni Todoke is set to premiere in 2024. The project is taken up by the original studio of the anime, Production I.G. Still in its early stages, not much is known about season 3 except that the third season will be an ONA, meaning it will exclusively run on online streaming platforms.
The official poster of Kimi ni Todoke season 3 shows Sawako and Kazehaya in an intimate snowy setting where the young couple is lovingly holding hands. In season 3, the original voice actors of Sawako and Kazehaya, Mamiko Noto and Daisuke Namikawa respectively, will be reprising their roles.
Kimi ni Todoke is a tender love story about an introverted girl, Sawako Kuronuma, who looks like a ghost from a popular Japanese horror movie. This leads to her being mocked and ridiculed by her classmates. Because of this and her personality, she’s never managed to make a single friend.
This changes when she enrolls in high school and meets Shouta Kazehaya, the most popular boy in class. Moved by Kazehaya’s kindness and his friendly personality, she inevitably falls in love with him. Along the way, she finally finds true friendship with her fellow classmates: Ayane Yano, Chizuru Yoshida, and Ryuu Sanada.
