One Piece: Manga Takes a Break as Creator Eiichiro Oda’s Eye Troubles Require Immediate Surgery

Spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1086 just dropped today, but along with it came bad news. There has been an announcement that One Piece will be going on a hiatus for a month.

The hiatus will begin from June 12, after the release of Chapter 1086 this Sunday, and will extend to July 10.

The unusually long hiatus is due to the health reasons of the creator of the series, Eiichiro Oda.

He’s been suffering health issues for quite some time due to the strict schedule of the weekly release of One Piece, which has been being serialized for 26 long years now.

Because of that, there have been several small breaks in recent times.

However, this time the mangaka is suffering from a bad eye condition. According to him, he has been having trouble seeing, and his vision is becoming blurry for some time now.

He has been diagnosed with astigmatism, and needs immediate surgery to cure the problem.

Needless to say, his astigmatism is affecting his work, and given the meticulousness the mangaka has demonstrated consistently for years, it’s understandable how difficult it has been for him.

But thankfully, the problem will soon be solved as Mr. Oda announced that he’ll be having a minor eye surgery for his astigmatism during this hiatus.

One Piece is currently in its Final Saga, and the story is now better than ever. With shocking revelations at every turn of events, the manga is solidifying its already iconic status even more.

Mr. Oda deserves a hearty round of applause for providing such quality content even while suffering. We’ll be wishing him a healthy recovery from his surgery, and will be waiting patiently for the next chapters of One Piece.
