Netflix has taken up the challenge to adapt the popular manga into a live action series. The One Piece live action series was announced back in July 2017 by the editor-in-chief of the Weekly Shonen Jump, Hiroyuki Nakano, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the beloved manga. Tomorrow Studios, in collaboration with the series creator Eiichiro Oda, will be producing the venture.
The cast, featuring the characters of the Romance Dawn Arc and obviously the first five Straw Hats, have been praised by fans. Luffy will be played by Iñaki Godoy, Zoro by Mackenyu Arata, Nami by Emily Rudd, Ussop by Jacob Romero Gibson, and finally Sanji will be portrayed by Taz Skylar.
The series will be debuting this year, and fans are waiting impatiently for its release. Netflix isn’t really very reliable for live action adaptations of popular manga and anime, evidenced by their recent endeavors on Death Note and Cowboy Bebop. But fans are really hoping to see their favorite pirates in their true essence.
