Two of the legendary figures in the One Piece world are the former Yonko and the captain of Whitebeard Pirates: Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard, and vice-admiral Monkey D. Garp. Operating on opposite sides of the law, the two were contemporaries, and both were notable rivals to Gol D. Roger, the King of Pirates. Here is the power comparison between Whitebeard vs. Garp.
While it’s certainly true that Whitebeard and Garp were at the peak of their power during their youth, they maintained being two of the strongest characters even in their old age. In the manga, they have never shown to be fighting, even though they were both in the Marineford War. This leads us to wonder what would’ve happened if they did fight each other during the Marineford War.
Whitebeard was known as the strongest man in the world who possessed the power of the strongest Paramecia devil fruit: Gura Gura no Mi. He was also a master of Haki, and had a very powerful Haoshoku Haki that rivaled that of Shanks. Whitebeard also was very strong physically and was proficient with his weapon.
Garp, on the other hand, is known as the Hero of the Marines. He went toe to toe with Roger in their prime, and is notorious for his crazy strong punches. Garp is also proficient in all three kinds of Haki, his Haoshoku being exceptionally strong. During his battle against Kuzan on Hachinosu, Garp demonstrated some of his techniques that completely overwhelmed the former admiral.
Whitebeard and Garp, the legends of the old generation, are two awe-inspiring figures. But in their old age if they were to fight, Whitebeard might just beat the vice-admiral by a small margin.
